Tips For Getting the Right Fit With a Plus Size Bra

Buying a bra seems like it would be a fairly simple process, but studies show upwards of seventy percent of women get the wrong size. One can imagine the percentage might be higher for women buying plus size bras.

An ill fitting bra is more than just a cause of aggravation for many women. It is a literal pain. From sore shoulders to knots in the back to poking underwires to headaches, the pain can take a toll on your quality of life as the years pass. The difference between wearing a quality fitting bra and one that is the wrong size is massive and you'll be glad you took the time to get the fit right.

The first thing to look for when seeking the right fit is the placement of the band. The band running around the bottom of the bra should run horizontally around your body at the same height. Many women choose a bra that is to small and the band hikes up and sits higher across the back than it should. To check the placement of the band, put the bra on and stand perpendicular to a mirror. Rock your arm forwards and backwards to see if the band is at the same height on your chest as on your back. If it is, you are headed in the right direction.

Many women wear underwire bras because, well, there really isn't a lot of choice. If this is you, there is a quick way to determine if you are wearing the wrong cup size. Take a look at the underwire wear it runs across the middle of your chest between the cups. If the wire is pulled away from your skin, the cup size is too small for your breasts. You need to go up a size.

If an error is going to be made, most women needing plus size bras will make it by choosing a cup size that is too small. Once you think you've found the perfect fitting bra, give it one final test. Stand in front of a mirror and lift your arms up over your head and move them around vigorously. Yes, it looks a bit silly, but it can tell you a lot about your fit. Are you spilling out anywhere? Make sure check the bottom of the cups as well. If you are, then you need a bigger cup size.

Ultimately, your bra is supposed to be both a support system and comfortable. It should not be causing you stress and pain. Take the time to really get a good fitting bra and it can make a world of difference in how you feel throughout and at the end of the day.
